FAQs
-
There are two key things we ask for to get started with our process; to prepare you can start gathering:
Building data - Develop a list of all buildings with information such as square footage, owned or leased, utility bill access, etc.
Energy usage data - Gather utility bills (electricity and natural gas) for each building as well as any fuel usage data (for fleet vehicles, fork lifts, generators, etc.)
-
That’s okay. If the Landlord pays for the utilities directly, you can request they provide usage information or copies of the bills.
There are also best practices for estimating energy use and other sources of GHG emissions. For many companies, the first year is a learning process; any gaps in data accessibility can be addressed leading up to the next year’s process.

Most often, we’d advise not to — at least not right away. Software can be expensive, and requires time and expertise to maintain. If you have access to a solution, we can manage the data upload and calculation process for you.
If you outsource GHG accounting to The GHG Shoppe, we will worry about if and when software adds value and improves efficiency. We may partner with a GHG accounting software provider as part of our back-end process. Should you decide to take the next step with your own software solution, we can help you evaluate the right solution for your needs and budget.
-
This is a common challenge for many businesses. The GHG Shoppe can work with you to develop a GHG management roadmap that time-phases activities, enables you to plan and budget accordingly, and sets you on path of meeting your customer’s expectations.
-
Yes. We have a diverse list of partners who we work with, including our parent company One Small Step, to support clients in broader sustainability program development and reporting. We are happy to identify partners that align with your industry, budget, and/or specific needs.
-
No, we do not provide this service. We can refer you to firms that do this work and align with your business size, budget, and industry.
However, we can help you through the assurance process and provide data or answer questions to the auditor.
